One should never have to chose between writing and sewing!

I should be writing on some papers for university but instead I am drooling over Sugar and Spice. It took me three entire hours (plus a lot of time preparing) this morning to get them from customs but they are so so sooo worth it. This is actually the first time that I got a fat quarter bundle and I couldn't bring myself to untie it. I might ask someone else to do it because it looks so pretty!

Eigentlich sollte ich gerade an ein paar Sachen für die Uni arbeiten. Leichter gesagt als getan, denn heute morgen habe ich nach einer dreistündigen Odyssee durch München mein Paket von Amanda vom Zoll abgeholt. Das war es total wert, die Stoffe sind einfach nur superschön!

And it now makes me want to sew but I can't! Well, at least I shouldn't :)
I am seriously considering giving up on university and moving to America to work for Riley Blake. When you work with such delicious fabrics all day long you would be really happy, right?
I hope everyone of you gets some sewing time today!

Und jetzt würde ich soooo gerne nähen, aber ich darf ja nicht! Uni geht vor! Allerdings ziehe ich es gerade in Erwägung auszuwandern und für Riley Blake zu arbeiten. Wer den ganzen Tag mit so tollen Stoffen zu tun hat, der muss doch glücklich sein, oder? Nicht, dass ich nicht glücklich wäre, aber mal ehrlich: nähen versus Finger wund tippen?

Friday Tutorial Sweet Diamond Quilt and a Giveaway!

Today it is my turn to post a tutorial on Amanda's site. I can't tell you how nervous I am! Of course I want it to be perfect and not have other people think that I am the weird German who is doing a lame post with lots and lots of mistakes.

Jedenfalls hatte diese Woche auch meine Mama Geburtstag! Happy Birthday, Mama :) Vermutlich findet sie das jetzt nicht so toll, aber in ungefähr einer Stunde werde ich mit Kuchen an ihrer Tür klingeln und sie wird das dann hoffentlich nicht mehr so eng sehen :)

Never say never...

Four years ago when I made my second quilt and got really upset because it took so long and those squares were never perfectly straight (cutting with my old not very sharp scissors...) I vowed to myself to never ever make a quilt again.
I didn't know that three years later I would purchase a cutting mat and a rotary cutter and get obsessed with making quilts...
So, last year when I was still making and selling handbags in my free time (I still do but the time for that is a bit more limited now :) ) I was thinking that never in a million years would I ever consider sewing a potholder. I mean, they are available at Ikea for 1€ why would I bother making one?
Do you see where I am going with this?


I saw this one and fell in love.
And now that I sewed together my project for the tutorial for the Quilted Fish I am free to use the rest of the fabric. Ah, potholder where have you been all my life! I might have spend more time in the kitchen and I might even be a better cook. But then again, I would probably just have a collection of potholders and spend all my time in front of the computer looking to grow my obsession :)
Tell me, have you ever thought that you would never ever do something only to find yourself doing that exact thing?

Vor recht genau vier Jahren habe ich an meiner zweiten Patchworkdecke gesessen. Es sollte ein Geburtstagsgeschenk werden, umso schlimmer, dass irgendwie kein Quadrat davon richtig gerade sein wollte. Meine unscharfe alte Stoffschere habe ich dann auch bald gegen eine neue ausgestauscht...
Jedenfalls habe ich mir in den mühsamen Stunden geschworen, nie wieder einen Quilt zu machen :)
Hätte ich damals gewusst, dass ich drei Jahre später dem Quiltwahn verfallen würde, hätte ich mich wohl schon vorrückt erklärt.
Letztes Jahr jedenfalls hätten mich keine zehn Pferde dazu bekommen, einen Topflappen zu nähen. Es gab zwar ganz nette bei Flickr, aber mal ehrlich: Ikea verkauft die für 1€, warum sollte ich Zeit und Anstrengung in etwas investieren, das ich dann sowieso nicht benutze?
Worauf ich hinaus will?

Ich habe diesen hier gesehen und wollte sofort auch einen machen!
Aus sofort sind zwar ein paar Monate geworden, aber die Topflappen haben schließlich das Licht der Welt erblickt :)
Aus meinen Sweet Divinity Resten, von denen ich nach Beendigung meines Projektes für the Quilted Fish einige habe :)
Ist Euch das auch schon passiert, dass Ihr felsenfest davon überzeugt wart, dass Ihr etwas nie machen wolltet, Euch aber Wochen oder Monate später genau dabei ertappt habt?

Friday Tutorial Flower Pillow

I have barely had time to read the instructions from last week but the next tutorial is already available! Meet Candice from Made with Love and her genius flower pillow!
I know you want to make it, go hop on over to the Quilted Fish. She not only shows you how to do those amazing flowers on the front of the pillow but also provides instructions for a covered zipper on the back of the pillow! I told you, genius!

Natürlich habe ich noch nicht das wunderbare Tutorial von letztem Freitag nach gearbeitet, aber jetzt ist schon wieder das nächste da! Vorhang auf für Candice von Made with Love und ihr geniales Blumen Kissen.
Wenn Ihr rüber klickt, dann seht Ihr nicht nur, wie sie die Blümchen so schön plastisch hin bekommt, sondern auch wie man einen bedeckten Reißverschluss auf die Rückseite des Kissens näht. Normalerweise total fummelig, sie hat allerdings eine etwas andere Methode gewählt und so klappt das schön schnell!

Friday Tutorial Sweet Flower Wall Hanging

It's Friday again! This week really flew by and I have nothing to show. Of course lying in bed all day long with a cold might have helped.
I am up again though and I want to share with you today the latest tutorial on the Quilted Fish. This one is from Brooke who blogs here.
Please go visit, her flower wand hanging is simply adorable (and this is the next quilt I am planning on making! I may have to quilt four or five mini quilts first but that's not keeping me from making another one :) ).

Und wieder ist Freitag und die Woche über habe ich absolut nichts gemacht. Es könnte unter anderem auch an der miesen Erkältung liegen, aber das ist nur so eine Vermutung meinerseits :)
Heute jedenfalls war ich wieder fleißig im Internet unterwegs. Zuerst habe ich mir das neueste Tutorial auf dem Quilted Fish angeschaut. Es ist von Brooke, die hier bloggt.
Ein ziemlich süßer Wandbehang (oder wie man auch immer dazu sagt... ein Quilt zum an die Wand hängen halt :) ) Außerdem wird das der nächste, an das ich mich wagen werde. Sofort nachdem ich die vier oder fünf herum liegenden Miniquilts gequiltet habe :)

Außerdem: eine Anleitung zum Kurven nähen :) Ein paar haben mich danach gefragt, allerdings kann ich dazu keine qualifizierte Antwort geben. Stephanie dagegen schon. Deswegen einfach mal rüber klicken und durch gucken. Das Bild hierzu habe ich schamlos von ihrem Blog geklaut, einfach zur Anschauung, damit Ihr wisst, was Ihr damit machen könnt :)

The last time I blog about Sherbet Pips (propably)

I feel like I have blogged about Sherbet Pips a lot, so I told myself that this would be the last time I mention that fabric line. I can’t promise it though :)

So, here are a few of the pictures that I snapped of my finished quilt.

Ich habe das Gefühl, als hätte ich schon viel zu oft über die Sherbet Pips Kollektion gebloggt, deswegen jetzt der vorerst letzte Post darüber. Ich kann aber nicht versprechen, dass es wirklich der allerletzte sein wird:)

Jetzt aber erst einmal ein paar Bilder von dem fertigen Quilt, mit ein paar gequilteten “Wackellinien” :)

As to fmq, I put it off until my supreme slider arrives. It was just too hard to pull the quilt through my machine, even with the foot barely touching the quilt. A quick picture of my construction covering the feed dogs. Yes, that is a Dawanda christmas postcard :)

A big thank you to everyone who helped me with my issues and took a lot of time resolving my problems! Thank you!

Das Free Motion Quilten ruht jetzt erst einmal. Zumindest solange bis der Supreme Slider da ist. Es war einfach zu schwer, den Quilt unter dem Fuß zu bewegen, auch nachdem der Fuß so eingestellt war, dass er fast nicht die Stoffoberfläche berührte.

Und noch ein kleines Bild von meiner wunderbaren Konstruktion, komplett mit Dawanda-Weihnachts-Postkarte :)

Ein ganz großes Dankeschön an alle, die mir mit meinen Problemen geholfen haben!

PS: diesen Post habe ich mit Windows Live Writer geschrieben, angeblich ein super tolles Tool um die Experimentierfreudigkeit von Blogger auszuschließen. Pustekuchen, das Ding ist genauso schlimm wie Blogger. Ein paar Features finde ich ganz nett (Wasserzeichen yeah!), aber so alles in allem ist es noch umständlicher und ich werde es vermutlich nicht weiter benutzen...
